WHY DO PEOPLE SNORE

Why do people snore?

Lynn A. D'Andrea, a sleep specialist at the University of Michigan Medical School, explains. "Snoring is the sound produced by vibrating structures of the upper airway, typically during inhalation. Any membranous part of the airway lacking cartilaginous support, including the tongue, soft palate, uvula, tonsillar pillars and pharyngeal walls, can vibrate".

In other words, snoring is caused by a partially closed upper airway (the nose and throat). Everyone’s neck muscles relax during sleep, but sometimes they relax so much that the upper airway partly closes and becomes too narrow for enough air to travel through to the lung, causing airflow limitation and turbulence. It is this combination of turbulent airflow through the hypotonic airway structures that results in the harsh vibratory noise known as snoring.

Though snoring is not an illness, but it is a symptom. Just as a cough can be a symptom of pneumonia, snoring can be a symptom of obstructive sleep apnea.

Who can snore?

Those who have enlarged tonsils, an enlarged tongue or excess weight around the neck are most prone to snoring. And structural reasons like the shape of one’s nose or jaw can also cause snoring. No matter the reason, 40% of normal adults snore regularly, whether they realize it or not.

Snoring can also occurs in children. Researchers have found that 20 percent of normal children snore occasionally and 7 percent to 10 percent of children snore every night. In many cases, children who snore are perfectly healthy, but about 1 percent of children who snore have obstructive sleep apnea.

Suggested treatment for snoring

Diet is important. It has been found that people who snore are usually overweight. In 20% of men and 30% or more, of women. So, get a diet and lose some weight until you weigh what you should and it is almost guaranteed that this problem will disappear.

Eliminate bad habits such as smoking or taking alcohol before going to bed
Raise the head of your bed so that the body is slightly inclined.

Apply 2 drops of aloe vera extract (aloe activator by Forever Living Products)
into each nasal passage before going to bed to ensure that your nose remains open all through the night

And above all,  before going to bed, gaggle aloe vera gel and swallow the liquid.
Aloe vera gel is a great astringent and antiseptic. It will help tighten and clean up the membrane that vibrate on the upper part of the troat as well as eliminate infection.
