25 different Varieties of Melon

For so many years, apart from the melon popularly known as egusi in Nigeria, the only other melon I know is water melon. You can imagine how surprised I was when a dear friend bought this big fruit and said it was called sweet melon. I didn't want to eat it at first (I'm not so good at trying out things), but with a little persuasion, I tasted it and I liked it.

This year, as i started to see it again, i decided to find out more about this sweet melon. Upon research, I then discovered that there were at least twenty-five other melons varieties. Woah!! A whooping 25? Where were they all these while?

Here, I will only list these 25 varieties of melon then in subsequent posts we will talk about their health benefits. But before I proceed, it is worthy of note that the term “melon” diversed in many different plants belong to the family Cucurbitaceae. Containing niacin, vitamin A, B6, C, potassium and their high water content, make it an excellence diuretic. Many species of melons are found, but they belong to four genera: Momordica, Benincasa, Citrulus, and Cucumis. Melons are usually fresh consumed, or used in juice, desserts, fruit salads, or custards. Here are the varieties of melon
