Forever Products and Joint Pain (Arthritis)

What is Arthritis?

Arthritis (from Greek arthro-, joint + -itis, inflammation; plural: arthritides) is a form of joint disorder that involves inflammation of one or more joints.

There are over 100 different forms of arthritis. The most common form of arthritis is osteoarthritis (also known as degenerative joint disease). Other arthritis forms are rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and related autoimmune diseases. Septic arthritis is caused by joint infection.
People of all ages, sexes and races can and do have arthritis, and it is the leading cause of disability in the world. More than 50 million adults and 300,000 children have some type of arthritis. It is most common among women and occurs more frequently as people get older.

Osteoarthritis

Is a deformation produced when the cartilage between the bones wear away to the point where the cartilage can disappear, causing the bones to rub uo against one another, particularly in extremities. It usually occurs after middle age, leading to pain, stiffness, and swelling.

 Rheumatoid Arthritis

Unlike Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis extends to the whole body, inflames the cartilage and the synovial membrane where the bones join. This causes loss of synovial fluid, (oily liquid that serves to lubricate and protect against friction and deterioration of the bones), specially in the fingers, wrists, feet, and ankles.

 Symptoms of Arthritis

Pain, which can vary in severity, is a common symptom in virtually all types of arthritis. Other symptoms include swelling, joint stiffness and aching around the joint(s). Arthritic disorders like lupus and rheumatoid arthritis can affect other organs in the body, leading to a variety of symptoms.

Symptoms may include
  • Inability to use the hand or walk
  • Stiffness, which may be worse in the morning, or after use
  • Malaise and fatigue
  • Weight loss
  • Poor sleep
  • Muscle aches and pains
  • Tenderness
  • Difficulty moving the joint
It is common in advanced arthritis for significant secondary changes to occur. For example, arthritic symptoms might make it difficult for a person to move around and/or exercise, which can lead to secondary effects, such as:
  • Muscle weakness
  • Loss of flexibility
  • Decreased aerobic fitness
